WHAT WE DO
Community Organization
With our large population, California is in a vulnerable state when it comes to protecting its citizens from the spread of COVID-19 and after witnessing recent protests at our city’s beaches, we felt it imperative that we took action. Our main goal as an organization is to distribute a free pair of masks to beachgoers as the traffic downtown increases and businesses start to open. As the founders of POMPOM, we are eager and hopeful to begin this journey with our community and in addition to distributing masks, we also aspire to educate and uplift people during these unforeseen times.
WHO WE ARE
Juniors at Huntington Beach High School
HAILEY HOLCOMB
My name is Hailey Holcomb, and as a co-founder of POMPOM, I’m excited to help protect my community and give back to it the same way it has provided a lively and exciting environment for me growing up. As a junior in high school, I am heavily involved with my school’s MUN program and I am also on the executive board for the Nations Honors Society as the Director of Internal Tutoring. In addition to dancing for over 13 years, I am also the Dance representative for my school’s performing art program and hold a spot on the Council. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my friends, and learning more about the world we live in.
SUMMER BALENTINE
Hi! My name is Summer Balentine, I am a junior at Huntington Beach High School. As a member of the Model United Nations Program, Captain of the Varsity Surf Team, and worker at Sugar Shack, I am invested in keeping our local businesses and beaches open in a safe manner by wearing masks. As an avid surfer, it is an extreme rarity to not see me by the beach any day of the week; therefore, preserving the beach culture and soul of Surf City is an extremely important cause to me that encompasses POM POM's mission.
JENNA ALI
Hi! My name is Jenna Ali and I am also a junior at Huntington Beach High School. As an active member of the Model United Nations program and Vice President of the activism club, I have always possessed a passion for world issues and social justice. As a result, forming this new organization to aid the transition back to society is an extremely important project for me. I am an active member of HB as a representative on the HB Youth Board and Junior Vice President of APA Student Council. As a co-founder of POMPOM, we hope to continue spreading awareness on the COVID-19 pandemic in order to transition back to normal as quickly as possible.
